diwali.
Diwali festival is greatly celebrated all over India, however the Golden Temple hosts one of the most extravagant celebrations of all. The Golden Temple is culturally the most significant place of worship for the Sikhs.
The temple was built with four doors to show that every religion or faith is welcomed in to meditate or just listen to the prayers for peace. Upon entering the temple, one replenishes themselves with a drink of water and then washes their feet. Upon sight of the temple, devotees kneel to the ground, bowing three times while praying.
All Sikhs are expected to undertake the rigors of meditation and selfless service to progress in their spirituality. 2008 Digital Photography, Photography, Photojournalism -

bukwe village.
"Bukwe Village" follows the life of a large Tanzanian family on their day to day routine in a tiny village. Agriculture is the foundation of the Tanzanian economy, unfortunately falling labour and land productivity due to poor technology and dependance on unreliable weather conditions constrain most farmers from production. The soil is rarely useable, creating a huge financial and emotional strain on local families.

living with the maasai.
This series documents one family and its extremely remote village located south east of Tarangire National Park in Tanzania. I came across the country to document this families day to day routine, staying with them for 3 days. I was interested in documenting how their nomadic life might be affected by the modern influences that encourage Maasai to abandon their traditions. This family however, kept to their nomadic lifestyle, only encouraging their elder to work selling jewellery in a Maasai market on the other side of the country. She remains as the only source of income.

kibera slum.
The Kibera Slum located 5 km southwest of Nairobi is made up of a number of villages. Together these villages account for 600,000 - 1.2 million people. Kibera accounts for less than 1% of Nairobi's total area but holds an astounding 1/4 of the population. Nairobi is victim to many slums, Kibera, being by far the largest one in the world. The land of the Kibera slums is government owned but provided with no public services. Technically the residents are squatters.
At present, the residents of this slum live with inadequate plumbing and no garbage disposal system leaving them with refuse piled in areas for animals and others to search through. For the most part, garbage can be seen everywhere. Underneath this garbage is an open sewer system. Heavy rains will swell these ditches moving its contents through the entire slum, backyards and inside some people's homes. This problem not only makes it difficult for the inhabitants but also for the government wanting to build on the land and rehouse the people. 2008 Photography, Photojournalism, Digital Photography -
